“Stay Wild” 40″ x 60″ oil on canvas

This painting is a reminder to stay connected to natures cycles in all its raw and wise ways. The waning crescent moon is celebrated with its enchanting, mystical and juicy energy. Honoring the wild and seductive waning moon phase taps us into the sensual and erotic side of a woman’s ancient future memory. It’s a highly intuitive and psychic lunar time when we can surrender to the achy call of the seductress. Here is my interpretation of a modern and universal expression of Hiʻiaka, who was the patron goddess of Hawai’I, hula dancers, chant, sorcery and medicine. Owls were her messengers and were sacred to her. Hiʻiaka lived in a grove of trees where she spent her days dancing with the forest spirits.

This painting is a meditation of prismatic color and light. She feels like she is dancing in different dimensions
Breath of Light is what I feel when I meditate and when I dance. Life force energy flows in and out of my body in an exchange of being alive and feeling the connection to all that is. There is a moment in meditation when it feels like the top of my head opens and the swirl of thoughts that live in my spinning monkey mind are set free and handed over to the heavens. I am then filled with a peaceful, expanded, heart soothing sensation that says,“Welcome home. You are held in love.”
My hope is that “Breath of Light” reminds you of this center within your soul.

Darkness cannot exist when we shine light into every corner. The recent political shift in this
country gives us the opportunity to look closely at all the troubling places that still exist in
America. We must move through and RISE together.
The inspiration for “Rise” came to me a year ago. Deeply impacted by the presidential election
results, the vision of “Rise” felt like a messenger of hope. She resuscitated my broken heart
with a deep, core expanding, breath of resilience. While painting her I worked through a range
of emotions that took me from fear, shock, anger, grief, questioning, and depression into a
more awakened, hopeful, brave, knowing that much needed change was occurring. I came to
the awareness that I had taken so much for granted about my rights and my life. I was filled
with a new commitment to empowerment and a sense of my own strength.
RISE came to me as a representation of a modern American woman—with the strength of a
warrior, a blend of ethnicities, and an empowered leader of the tribe. She is wearing an
American Flag specifically covering her lower body as protection against our current President
who supports grabbing women “by their pussies.” Her chest is shattered from a grieving,
broken heart but there is healing occurring from a molten strength deep at her core, like Pele’s
fire…rising.
She is bare breasted as a statement of brave vulnerability. We live in a country with puritanical
roots. A women’s naked body is not a sexual object to be shamed and hidden. It is the vessel
she lives in and loves from and should feel safe in.
Perched on her right arm is our American symbol of freedom, the Bald Eagle. The light traveling
between them is meant to be their intuitive and divine connection and a passing of ancient
wisdom from the animal spirit realm to the human one.
The tattoos on her left arm are symbols of her mission.
A dove on her shoulder for peace.
The symbol of intersectionality and those who are interconnected through discrimination.
The lotus flower to represent resilience as we emerge from a struggle.
A phoenix representing rebirth and the act of rising out of the darkness and into the light.
The moon symbol honoring the divine feminine.
She is holding a budding olive branch in her hand as an offering of peaceful new beginnings.
Held by a gold crescent divine feminine moon, she stands strong, looking forward into the
future.
My intention is to create paintings that serve as reminders that we as women have a strength
beyond measure, and that we are here to raise one another up in this world. May this painting
serve as a reminder for all of us to draw upon our strengths and RISE.
As Oprah said, “I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the
horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent
women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men,
fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody
ever has to say “me too” again.”

This painting is about movement. Not staying stagnant. So much of my work is about the process of surrender. There are always more layers in this life to peel back and expose our next level of tender vulnerability. The message of this piece is to surrender to the current of life in gratitude for what you have been given. Waves of golden wind carry the figure into a dance of deep knowing. She is listening deeply to the messages from spirit in the wind that will dance her into a new life.

This painting is about knowing when it is time to let go. It explores the power of deep listening and our connection to something greater then our selves. It is about the moment when we offer ourselves up to be of service and are met with support from the Beloved. Knowing at our core that we will be guided to new possibilities and new directions in our lives. Knowing that we are not alone and ultimately will continue to choose faith in the Divine over fear in this human experience.

This painting is about remembering the ability we have to transform our lives and create new realities from our intentions. We all possess the power to tap in to our internal guidance system that is directly tuned in to Divine Spirit. In this painting the woman holds the light of faith in her hand and lights her way as she moves forward. One thing I have learned is that we don’t ever really know what the next step will bring but we will be shown our path if we have faith in one step at a time. In this painting she only can see as far as her next step but she is clearly surrounded in magical support. Keep the faith in times of darkness.

This painting was based on a quote from a man and teacher I was blessed to spend some time with while he was on the planet. Dr. Wayne Dyer became a friend a few years ago..an unexpected date to a New Years Eve party of all things. Life is amazing. I sometimes shared my challenges as an artist with him and one day he said to me “Christina…don’t die with the music still in you” One of his famous quotes from I’m not sure which book said to me with a smile and the warmth that only Wayne possessed. So this painting was inspired by that message. The best part of the story is that when I sent him an image of this painting he loved it but then asked me if I could paint her facing the other direction…hahaha! A great humor…he is missed.

This painting is about transformation and the possibilities that live in the shadowy places of our lives. She wears a chrysalis and a butterfly around her neck . These are the ultimate symbols of transformation. The shadow of her arm becomes a wing that connects to a magical land hidden in the shadow cast on the wall next to her. Sometimes the biggest gifts in our lives come from the darkest moments. Shadow Visions is about trusting and knowing that there is purpose and magic hidden in those places in our lives we just can’t seem to see yet. The larger message here is to trust that there is magic waiting for you. Personally this painting explores my journey to move to Maui. It was painted in my studio in Maine as if I was seeing into the future I so desperately wanted to create.

Winter Solstice is the darkest day of the year but after this day we start climbing back into more light. This painting is meant to express the mystery of those dark days and the emptying out of sadness and struggle. It is a time of letting go of the things we have been holding on to that no longer serve us and feeling our true nature return to us and fill us with light. Her shadow is showing us wings, which represent the fact that she is more than she appears to be and again as with most references to wings in my work…they are a statement that Great Spirit/God/Goddess is present.
