My intention for this painting is to embody the spirit of being broken open, exposed, and made vulnerable by fierce love. Goddess Pele is digging into the heart and soul of the earth to release and transmute old ways of being and thinking that no longer serve us. She is allowing and encouraging the lava to flow which will create the earth that will provide a new path for us to walk. Her gesture is saying “let the past burn so that we may rise into an empowered present and future”.
Living in Hawaii, on the island of Maui, inspires me to work with the powerful and transformative energy of Goddess Pele. It is said that when Pele arrived in Hawaii, she first used her Pa’oa, or o’o stick on Kauai to strike deep into the earth. She dug “fire pits,” on Oahu including the crater we now call Diamond Head. After that, she left her mark on the island of Molokai before traveling to Maui and creating the Haleakala Volcano.

This painting explores the profound connection between the Divine Feminine wisdom centers: the Womb Space, Heart Space, Third Eye, and the 8th chakra, or “Soul Star.” Each of these centers lights up the others, creating a bridge to other dimensions. I’ve discovered that these are the sacred places within me where I find all the guidance I will ever need.
“Vyapini Soul Star is our connection or gateway to the broader universe, the cosmos, or “all that there is.” It is the seat of our subconscious mind and interplays with our dream space.
